Barb's Pottery

The Studio is housed in a log building originally constructed between 1904 and 1910. This charming heritage building, with its hand-hewn logs and dove-tailed corners, is a perfect example of the type of home built by Norwegian settlers who arrived in Bella Coola in the fall of 1894. The building was originally located 30 miles east of its present location. The studio in addition and the gallery were opened in November 1992.
My studio and shop feature my own custom-made wheel-thrown stoneware, Raku and porcelain pottery, as well as carefully selected giftware created by other British Columbian artists. My buying policy is a strict one - everything sold in the shop must be handmade in British Columbia.
  
I was born, raised and have lived most of my life in the beautiful Bella Coola Valley.
For me working with clay and other materials to make beautiful and functional pottery, is the realization of a childhood dream. To that end, I have spent the last twenty years refining my stoneware technique as well as experimenting with porcelain, Raku and sculpture.
In 1992, the opportunity to purchase a heritage building gave me an ideal studio/shop in which to continue my work, satisfy the growing regional demand for my creations and showcase the work of other BC artists. I can be found there or in my gardens almost every day of the week.
