Things To Do in the Valley
When in the Valley, you determine the pace. You can hike a mountain, get out on the river, snorkel with salmon, go horseback riding, mountain biking, drive the back roads, or wildlife viewing. In winter, experience heli-sports in what may be the world's best powder or reach dazzlingly beautiful places on a snowmobile. Simply being in the mountain-protected Valley is an adventure.
However, you can also laze with a fishing pole, kayak a tranquil estuary, quietly watch the local birdlife, hear the mystical chant of a Nuxalk guide, cruise to a hot spring, or soar in a plane over the well-named Rainbow Mountains. In winter, glide on cross-country skis or make fat footprints in freshly fallen snow. In every season, you call it -- have an exhilarating adventure or tranquil time in the Bella Coola Valley.

Grizzly bears are common in the Valley bottom from mid-summer to mid-autumn as they patrol the rivers in search of salmon spawners. The bears need the oil-rich salmon in order to store enough fat reserves to survive the long winter hibernation.
