Valley Waterfalls

The Bella Coola Valley is the place to hear the roar and feel the spray of moisture as you take in the sight of tonnes of tumbling water spilling into a crystalline river. Go to Clayton Creek Park and take an easy uphill stroll to Clayton Falls. Not far from the town, yet feeling remote, you view a tumbling curtain of frothy water glistening over silky smooth boulders. In late summer, shiny pink salmon spawn downstream. This mesmerizing view spot typifies the Bella Coola Valley - the best of wilderness, close to town.

Most spectacular is Hunlen Falls. Take a guided backpack trip to pay homage to the 260-m (850-ft) high cascade of water, surrounded by the wilderness of Tweedsmuir Provincial Park. This is the third-highest waterfall in Canada, so don't forget your camera. The falls can also be seen on a flightseeing excursion that is one of the must-do's of a visit to this region. Another waterfall option is Odegaard Falls in the Nusatsum Valley, accessed via a  Forestry Service Road and a short walk. You can also take a 4- to 6-hour hike that puts you up close to the tumbling water.

There are a variety of hiking options when it comes to Schoolhouse Mountain Falls outside of Hagensborg. Whether you take the easier West Falls Trail or the more difficult East Falls Trail, you are guaranteed pretty pictures.
